SWAT team members kicked down the door of the wrong home, and were reportedly shot at by the surprised homeowner. The man was apparently frightened by the unexpected arrival of the officers, and grabbed the gun for defense. The SWAT's arrival at the wrong house was apparently due to bad information given to police, who were carrying out a search warrant. Two officers were hit by the shots, but their bullet-proof gear saved them from injury.

A life-sized sculpture of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud depicted as hanging from a noose alarmed residents of Grand Rapids, who saw it hanging from the top of the Trade Center Building - a scene that very accurately resembled a suicide case. The sculpture, "Man Hanging Out" created by David Cerny, which showed a life-sized body of a man hanging from a rod by his hand, is currently touring the world and being displayed in a number of cities in Europe and the United States.

The Berlin Zoo celebrated the first birthday of its famous polar bear Knut, who was born and then rejected by its mother. Since infancy, the polar bear has caught the attention and the endearment of people the world over. The birthday celebration, which was held Wednesday, involved more than 2,000 attendees by noon, and was highlighted by a giant birthday cake made from 300 eggs and 22 pounds of marzipan.

A car passenger was apprehended by police officials for pulling out a toy gun and aiming it at the head of the driver friend, causing panic. The incident occurred during the late afternoon on Interstate 70. The man, identified as 23-year old college student Justin Carman who, while driving back with three other friends from a football game, apparently took out the toy gun from his pocket and upon aiming it at the head of the driver.

A farmer who got his hand stuck in a rusty corn harvester cut off his own arm with a pocketknife to save himself from being burned when the machine caught fire. Describing the September incident on NBC's "Today Show," Sampson Parker said that he had taken off the glove of his right hand and reached into the machine to remove a corn-stalk when his hand got stuck.
