A new regulation limiting alcohol orders and drinking in bars in the province took effect Friday. The new rules of the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission set the minimum prices per ounce of spirits and liqueurs and per can of beer at $2. 75. The price of an ounce of wine will be at least 35 cents and an ounce of draft beer at least 16 cents.

People who have fat friends are more likely to put on some unwanted pounds as compared to people who have leaner friends, new research suggests. Calling it "imitative obesity," an international team including University of Warwick experts suggest fat friends can cause someone to put on weight too. Researchers analyzed data on 27,000 people from across Europe and found that obesity is more of a sociological phenomenon than a physiological one, as people are subconsciously influenced by the weight of people around them.

The world's oldest blogger has died after posting her final blog about singing "a happy song" in her nursing home on July 12. She died at the age of 108. Olive Riley, an Australian woman had posted more than 70 blog entries since February 2007.
