rin Maynard gave birth to twins Sean William, 10 pounds, 14 ounces, and Abigail Rose, 12 pounds, 3 ounces at Forsyth Medical Center's Sara Lee Center for Women's Health Tuesday. The twins, with a combined weight of 23 pounds, 1 ounce, may claim the title of the heaviest set of twins ever born in North Carolina. The twins, delivered by Cesarean section two minutes apart, were born to Joey and Erin Maynard and are both in excellent health. The scale-topping twins may also turn out to be the second heaviest set of twins born in the entire U. S. in the last century.

McDonalds has been a favorite whipping boy of health buffs and nutrition experts, with its French fries and Quarterpounders being blamed for obesity among Americans. A Virginia man, however, credits the fastfood outlet for his losing about 80 pounds. But Chris Coleson, who was 278 pounds in December, did not gorge on McDonald's fattening offers. Rather, he feasted on the hamburger chain's healthy menu such as salads, wraps and apple dippers, less the caramel sauce.

A 16-year-old girl survived being struck by lightning and won lottery the following day. BreAnna Helsel was at her family's Blanchard home was watching thunderstorms on June 6. Rain was entering through an open kitchen window and just as she was about to close the window, she got hit by lightning.

Two Spanish children have been sent to a mental health institution by their parents to get treatment for addiction to their mobile phones. The children had allegedly ceased to undertake normal activities without first having their phones. The children, aged 12 and 13, were admitted to Child and Youth Mental Health Centre in Lleida, in northeastern Spain near Barcelona, three months ago. Their concerned parents brought them in after they spend an average of six hours a day on their phones, talking, texting or playing games.

A four-year-old girl accidentally shot herself in the chest with her grandmother's gun inside a Sam's Club store here Monday. The girl was rushed to a hospital for treatment and is now recovering. The child, whose name was withheld, was with her grandmother, Donna Hutto Williamson, shopping at the supermarket when the incident happened. The girl, who was sitting in a shopping cart, grabbed a small-caliber handgun from her grandmother's purse and then accidentally pulled the trigger.
