A British man who brought traffic to a standstill when he staged a anti-China protest dressed as Spiderman, won his appeal Friday against his jail sentence, his lawyer said. Matt Pearce, 30, has been convicted of causing a public nuisance when he scaled a giant street-side video screen on a building in June last year dressed as the comic-book super hero. The stunt was staged to draw attention to commemorations of the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen pro-democracy crackdown in Beijing.

A cat has become a national hero in Germany by saving the life of a newborn baby abandoned on the doorstep of a Cologne house in the middle of the night. The cat meowed loudly until someone woke up. "The cat is a hero," Cologne police spokesperson Uwe Beier says. "Its loud meowing got the attention of the homeowner and saved the baby from suffering life-threatening hypothermia.

Joaquin Phoenix, who portrays Johnny Cash in the highly successful bio-pic about Cash's life, "Walk the Line" returned to the scene of one of the musician's most famous concerts - Folsom State Prison in California. Cash's Jan. 13, 1968, performance in the prison yard cemented his image as working-class hero and became a best selling live album.
