Pennsylvania Grannies Busted For Running $10K Weekly Heroin Selling Operation
Two grannies in northeastern Pennsylvania - who were apparently not satisfied with living off monthly Social Security checks - were busted by local police for allegedly running a cash-cow heroin operation that raked in $10,000 per week. Siblings Elizabeth Grube, 70, and Elaine Volkert, 65, of Stroud Township were freed on their own recognizance after being arrested and charged with possession of heroin with intent to deliver. Julio Checo, 28, of Allentown, was also arrested on charges of allegedly supplying large quantities of heroin to the sisters, but he is still in jail unless he posts a $75,000 bail.
Elderly Sisters Arrested For Selling Heroin In Pennsylvania
Two elderly sisters from Monroe County, Pennsylvania were arrested for allegedly distributing drugs after being arrested on April 14. Elizabeth Marie Grube, 70, and her 65-year-old sister, Elaine Volkert, are facing drug charges after investigators seized 400 bags of heroin worth more than $8,000 and more than $2,000 in cash from Grube's home.
Prison Drug Counselor Accused Of Smuggling Drugs Into Jailhouse
A prison drug counselor faces felony charges after being caught smuggling heroin and cocaine into the Riker's Island jailhouse. The Village Voice reported that Juan Delarosa, 56, was initially arrested in January this year after authorities, who had been alerted to his criminal activity, caught him with more than bags of heroin and two bags of cocaine in his jacket pocket. He is now charged with felony and misdemeanor counts of attempted promoting of prison contraband. Upon his initial arrest he was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.
The Ease Of Purchasing Drugs In Vancouver Highlighted When Man Dressed As Beaver Buys Heroin
In an effort to highlight the ease in which drugs are available on Vancouver's Downtown Eastside streets, radio station DJs played a prank, sending someone out to buy find and buy heroin, all while wearing a beaver costume--and it didn't take the DJ long to find it. On June 4, CFOX-FM sent a DJ that goes by the on-air name, Captain Scotty, to a street that is notorious for drug deals. Dressed as a beaver and carrying a sign that said he was looking to buy heroin, the DJ was reportedly able to purchase the drugs in a matter of minutes.
Vietnam Prison Officers Jailed For Helping Death Row Inmate Get Pregnant
Two prison officers have been sent to jail by a court in northern Vietnam for helping a woman on death row get pregnant, according to an official Thursday. The People's Court of Hoa Binh City found Nguyen Thuyen and Bui Van Quyet guilty of allowing a male prisoner visit 40 year old Nguyen Thi Oanh to have sex so that she could become pregnant and take advantage of a Vietnamese law which states that pregnant women and those with children under three cannot be put to death.
