A 24-year old singer from Lincoln, Nebraska has been suffering non-stop hiccups for the past 11 months.

Chris Sands, 24, acquired the hiccups last February and has literally tried everything just to get rid of the hiccups that during severe attacks leave him unable to sleep, eat or even breathe properly. But all attempts to end the hiccups - even holding his breath and drinking from the wrong side of a glass - have been in vain.

Sands has been forced to take a leave of absence from his band.

Doctors attending the singer had him undergo a brain scan, abdomen scan, chest scan and CT scan to determine the reason behind his mysterious hiccups, but all proved futile.

As a last resort, doctors are contemplating sending him to a psychologist in the belief that his body has gotten used to hiccupping.

So far, Sands has still a long way to go to unseat world record holder Charles Osborne, of Anthon, Iowa, who had the longest ever bout of hiccups, which lasted for 68 years from 1922 until 1990.
