A high school graduate from North Carolina has legally changed her name from Jennifer Thornburg to Cutout Dissection.com in a bid to end dissection of animals in schools.
The 19-year-old Asheville High School graduate and intern of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has told The Asheville Citizen-Times that people curious about her name will become aware of her advocacy.
Cutout's surname is the name of the PETA website calling for a stop to the dissection of animals as a school lesson.
Her decision to change name came after she felt uncomfortable cutting a chicken wing as part of her school assignment. She successfully convinced her school to have a policy allowing students to do assignments other than dissecting animals.
Cutout's dad, Duane Thornburg of Daytona Beach, Florida, said he respects her daughter's decision to change her name. He also supports her campaign.
