Japanese men must work less to assist at home more, reported The Associated Press referring to a survey published on Sunday.

The survey was conducted by Rengo Soken, a research institute associated with Japanese trade unions.

According to the survey published in the Yomiuri newspaper, women keep on bearing the majority of the housework and child rearing among working couples.

According to the survey findings, more than one in three workingwomen want household tasks like taking care of the children and cleaning the house to be delegated equally.

The survey was carried out on 768 company employees belonging to the age group of 20-50 years. "In order to promote the division of housework and child-rearing between men and women, it is necessary for working hours to be reduced for men," Rengo Soken said to the Yomiuri.

According to the survey, men who worked less than 50 hours a week were are the suitable candidates for household chores like changing the children's clothes and preparing their meals, cleaning the bath, taking out the trash and cleaning up after meals.
