According to a recent poll, most Americans know more about Homer and the Simpson clan than they do about the US Constitution's First Amendment.
In a survey, only one in four people could name one of the five amendments, whereas more than half could name at least two family members of the Simpsons.
A museum dedicated to the First Amendment says the results show there is a need to explain one of the country's basic laws better.
Joe Madeira, director of exhibitions at the McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum, says, "We have our job cut out for us."
Another finding from the poll, a telephone survey of 1,000 random adults with an error margin of 3 percent, was that 22 percent of Americans could name all five Simpson characters, according to the BBC News Web site.
