Hooters' latest fundraiser is drawing criticism from some Los Angeles city officials.
According to reports, on July 13, the restaurant will host a bikini contest to raise money for the spay and neuter programs over at Los Angeles Animal Services.
City Controller Laura Chick says, "Are we going backward here? We are a city with all kinds of progressive programs that empower women and end discrimination in the workplace, and now we're being connected with a Hooters bikini contest. It isn't right."
Animal Services Director Ed Boks stated that the bikini contest, called "Hooters for Neuters" would go on, even after it upset some people.
Boks says, "These people have gone out of their way in helping us, and I would hate to deny these businesses from helping to save the lives of animals in our shelters."
However, he did state that there would be a more rigorous vetting for future fundraisers.
Boks says, "When somebody steps up and says they want to help your agency raise money, your inclination is to say `Yes.' But, we probably won't be involved in any future bikini contests."
