Officials working at a Budapest zoo say the monkeys and apes drink up to 55 liters of red wine annually.
The wine which is administered in bits is intended to boost the animals' red blood cells.
Zoltan Hanga, the spokesperson for the zoo said the 11 anthropoid apes drank most of the red wine administered last year.
"Obviously, they do not have it all at once and get drunk, but they get it in small amounts mixed in their tea," he said.
