Former Wrestler, Benihana Founder, Dies At 69

Rocky Aoki, a former wrestler who founded the restaurant chain Benihana, died here Thursday night. Cause of death was not given, but the 69-year-old Aoki has said publicly that he suffered from diabetes and cirrhosis of the liver, as well as hepatitis C that he said he contracted from a blood transfusion.

States Take Aim At Sex Offenders Who Want To Become Ice Cream Vendors

On a hot summer the ice cream vendor is the modern Pied Piper of Hamelin and various states are not about to let sex offenders use the trade as their way to lure children. Several states are now working on bans against allowing sex offenders. The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors in California, as one example, is planning to draft an ordinance that would prohibit convicted sex predators from driving ice cream trucks after one was found last summer in Perris.

1,000 Pound Squid Defrosted For Study In New Zealand

Marine biologists in New Zealand are thawing out a 1,000 pound squid from a huge ice block in order to study it. The analysis of the 1,089-pound, 26-foot long colossal squid, set to begin Wednesday, will help determine how the creatures live and breed. The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa will broadcast the thawing and examination live on the Internet.

Melting ice from a glacier in southern Chile has caused a glacial lake to empty suddenly, sending a sudden rush of water rolling through a river. However, no one was injured in the area. Global warming and rising world temperatures caused water to fill the Cachet Lake and increased pressure on the ice sheet. Melting water from the Colonia glacier gradually caused a 5-mile tunnel through the glacier that emptied into the Baker River on April 6, according to The Associated Press.

World's Oldest Tree May Have Been Found In Sweden

According to scientists, who sent samples of the tree to a laboratory in Miami, Florida, the Norwegian spruce dates back to nearly 8,000 years. It grows at a height of 950 meters above sea level, is more than two meters (6. 5 feet) tall and about 20 centimeters (8 inches) in width.
