City officials here have threatened a woman with fines if she doesn't remove the two toilet planters in her yard.
Tina Asmus made the "art piece planters" in her front yard using a few old toilets and a pedestal sink, The Daily Herald reported. Now the village of Lakemoor and some of her neighbors are calling for their removal.
"I'm very creative, artsy and crafty in this regard, and I like to find old things that I can recycle and repurpose," Asmus told the Herald. "I saw a friend who made a planter out of an old toilet once and I loved it, so last year, I made one for myself."
Mayor Todd Weihoffen has threatened to fine Asmus between $25 and $500 if she ignores orders to remove the toilets from her yard.
Mayor Weihoffen, although a plumber by trade, failed to find art in the garden display, seeing only "old plumbing fixtures" that have no place in a clean yard, the Herald reported.
"My yard is neat and clean and this definitely catches the eye of some people and makes them smile," Asmus told the Herald. "It's different. I like different."
The potty planters have smiley faces on them and hold an assortment of daisies, angel's breath, lilies and other flowers. One bears the words "I love my neighbors."
It seems, for some, the feeling isn't mutual.
