Indian censoring authorities want to ban daytime screening of a advertisement promoting 'XXX' strawberry, chocolate and banana flavored condoms. They perceive the catch line "what is your flavor of the night" as offensive.
The Chairperson of the censor board of India, Sharmila Tagore expressed his thinking on the ads in strong words to the Times of India newspaper.
"Condom use is most important. Even the Censor Board has certified several condom ads which have a message and will help India's fight against HIV/AIDS. But this campaign is obscene," Tagore said.
Referring to U.N. data, Reuters said that 5.7 million Indians are living with the HIV. But activists say the true figure may be far higher as the perceived social stigma forces many of those infected to keep their status a secret.
