An Indian couple in their sixties committed suicide after their dog, "Puppy," died, leaving behind a note explaining they were putting an end to their lives because they could not endure the loss.

Police found the bodies of C.N. Madanraj, 66, and his wife, 63-year-old Tara Bai, in their home. They had hanged themselves.

The couple never had any children and their dog had been with them for 13 years before it died last week, according to the Deccan Herald.

In the note the couple listed the names and addresses of their relatives. They also left about $40 to pay for their funeral.

Madanraj's nephew saw the grief the couple experienced when Puppy passed away.

AP quotes him as saying, "They were so shocked and saddened by the loss of their companion that they performed a formal funeral. They wrapped its body in cloth and buried it in the backyard of their home."
