A man was arrested for stealing a twin-engine plane, and speeding it along the taxiway, all in an effort to impress his lady friend. He was charged for his misdemeanors Friday.

Police reports stated that back in September, 38-year old Michael Santos, a man who was drunk at the time, drove to the airport despite a lifetime ban from driving, stole a plane, and then taxied it, just to show his girlfriend that he could fly the plane.

The Daily Telegraph reported that it was not long after the plane sped off on the taxi way that flames started to emanate from the left engine.

This caused Santos to turn off all the other engines and swerve the plane to the left, right into a soybean field.

The total plane damages amounted to $160,000.

The AP said that Santos is currently being held at the LaPorte County Jail on a $2,000 bond, and was charged with criminal mischief and operating a vehicle after his license was revoked and was forfeited to do so for life.

Detective Tom Thate of the LaPorte Police said that Santos was apprehended merely through an anonymous tip with information from an overheard statement from Santos himself, recounting the incident for another person.
