Local officials responding to a call about a dead body at a cemetery found themselves looking at a dummy filled with a straw, with a pumpkin for a head.

According to police, the report was filed by a woman on cross-country skis, who said that she saw what seemed to be a dead body on a park bench at the Riverview Cemetery.

Police arrived at the scene at around 7:15 p.m., and walked the entire length of the cemetery through the snow, reported the South Bend Tribune. Upon finding the location, they lifted the hat off the body to find a pumpkin instead of a human head.

The AP added that according to Fire Capt. Tom Pennino, the woman did not manage to get close enough to see that it was not a corpse. He speculated that the dummy was a Halloween decoration that was merely tossed aside.

He considered the woman's actions to have been understandable.
