Traffic court in Indianapolis was shut down for the day for a strange reason on Thursday afternoon when three Marion County court employees became sick after the release of pepper spray.
No one in the courthouse used the spray for self-defense, but it was found that the CS gas or pepper spray that is used by the police department got loose in the building's ventilation system.
The Indianapolis Star reported that the court shares a building with the Indianapolis Police Department training unit. An investigation is still ongoing to find out if the gas was released during cleaning or in another way.
"Everything went fairly smooth considering the chaos that was there for a few minutes," said Court Commissioner Marc Rothenberg told the newspaper. "We had firemen running in with gas masks."
The traffic court is now expected to be back in session Friday and it is reported that all the affected workers were expected to be fine.
