In a bid to protect women from the sexual harassment they face while traveling, an Indonesian firm has reportedly launched a bus-service which will accept only female passengers. The service is believed to be the first of its kind in the country that has the world's largest Muslim population.

According to a report by the Kompas newspaper, PT Riau Kencana Madani, the company behind the bus-service, has launched the service to provide women with a safe environment and protect them from teasing and harassing by men while on public transport.

While the buses will accept only female passengers, the presence of one man is indispensable and he is the driver.

According to the company's president Deddy Mizward, their efforts to recruit women for the post have failed.

Islam is Indonesia's dominant religion with more than 80 percent of its population identified as Muslims.
