Eighteen prisoners from an Indonesian jail succeeded to escape by using a self made pepper spray. Though 15 of the inmates were recaptured later but three are still at large.
Aspan Nainggolan, a police spokesman on Tuesday said the incident happened Sunday during breakfast time when the inmates detained at Pematang Siantar Penitentiary in North Sumatra province used chili liquid held in plastic water bottles to attack the guards. The prisoners grabbed their keys and escaped, he said.
A prison official said that the jail, housing more than 800 prisoners and located about 30 miles from the provincial capital Medan, had never had a break-out like it.
Like many other Asian countries, Indonesians season most meals with chili or use hot chili sauce.
