Manager Saves His Customer's Life By Donating Kidney

The sales manager of a Long Island banquet hall in New York offered to donate a kidney to one of his former customers, who was about to die of a polycystic kidney disease, a genetic disorder at play in his mother's, grandmother's and brother's deaths. Matt Fulgieri, a 42-year-old father of two young boys who lives in Astoria, Queens, was left with only weeks to live, when he received a successful kidney transplant from Rick Bellando, who had become a friend after booking Fulgieri's wedding.

U.K. Canoe Man Reached Hideaway Through Secret Door

A secret door which led to the hideaway of "canoe man" John Darwin during the years he was "missing" was discovered by the current tenant of the former Darwin residence. The passageway was in a cupboard with a fake wall, which opened to a passageway to a small living space. Police believe that Darwin would go from the bedroom he shared with wife Anne, and go down the passage into the room, whenever Anne would have visitors.

Update: "Dead" Canoeist Charged With Fraud

Resurrected Briton John Darwin was charged with fraud on Saturday, after he resurfaced a week earlier after a five-year disappearance. Police thumbed down the canoeist Darwin's claim of amnesia, and decided to sue him for with "offenses of obtaining a money transfer by deception and making an untrue statement. . . to procure a passport," according to Cleveland Police Detective Sergeant Iain Henderson.

Fish Fry Blaze Blamed on Family Dog

A house fire that resulted in $50,000 worth of damages was started by the family dog, said firefighters. A woman who was frying fish was reported to have gone to take out the garbage, when the dog shut the door behind her. The fish was still frying in the pan, and eventually resulted in shooting flames and heavy smoke.

Thousands Of Missing Bananas 'Wash Up' On Dutch Islands

Bananas reportedly washed up by the thousands on two Dutch North Sea islands Wednesday, as caused by six containers that fell from a cargo ship caught in a storm. The bananas were said to have come in ten crates, from the ship Duncan Island.
