With many trends in the dating world such as speed-dating, clubbing, and on-line romances given a shot before getting the boot, a new trend has arrived to help cure the lonely hearts of London.
'Intellidating', or finding love in places such as debating societies, art classes, or poetry readings, have heated up the singles' scene in the English capital for those who seek love in all the right places.
'Intellidating' is making waves everywhere as even debating is now seen as more sexy than sweaty people dancing in packed dance floors with cocktail in hand.
One entrepreneur acting on the trend is Ginny Greenwood, whose Futures Squared club aims at cash-rich, time-poor singles who look for more depth by engaging in a debate rather than asking for someone's astrological sign at a bar.
"You are not concentrating on what is happening from the navel to the knee; you are connecting to the grey matter," she tells Reuters.
"I think intellidating is a great phrase," she adds. "I'm sure it will end up in the dictionary. If you are an intelligent person in an important position at work, you are not going to hang out in a bar or go speed dating."
The trend is picking up speed at every singles' corner.
Jeremy O'Grady of Intelligence Squared in London, another hot-spot for singles on the look out for 'intellidates' says: "Whether it is dating or debating is debatable but this represents an opportunity for people who want intelligent dating."
"There is such a lack of institutional fora other than the dance floor or the club for them to meet. It is all so hideously difficult."
