Israeli ambassador to El Salvador Tsuriel Raphael has been removed from his post after the long-time diplomat was found drunk and naked, wearing only bondage gear.
Israeli Ministry spokeswoman Zehavit Ben-Hillel confirmed the removal of Raphael after El Salvador police found the ambassador outside his residence in the Israeli embassy compound bound, gagged, drunk and naked, except for several sex toys he was reportedly wearing at the time.
Although no official laws broken, Ben-Hillel says Raphael, who had served as ambassador to El Salvador for six months, was being dismissed from his post for "behavior that is unbecoming of a diplomat."
The latest incident is just one of several scandals that have plagued Israel in recent years, prompting calls for an overhaul of the way Israel appoints its political ambassadors.
In 2000, Israel's ambassador to France died of cardiac arrest in a Paris hotel while reportedly with a woman who was not his wife at the time. Last year, Israel replaced its ambassador to Australia after he made derogatory comments saying Israel and Australia were "like sisters" because both are located in Asia, but their people don't have the Asian characteristics of "yellow skin and slanted eyes."
Meanwhile, in 2005, another diplomatic appointment to Australia was canceled after it was discovered the candidate published pictures of nude Brazilian women on the Internet while on an earlier mission in Brazil.
