Fearing more violence after Genoa's demotion from Italy's top division for game fixing, police are keeping a close eye on ferry terminals and train stations.
Violence breaks out early Tuesday after Italy's highest soccer tribunal decides to relegate Genoa to the third division.
Venting their frustration, angry fans set garbage cans on fire, damage cars and motorcycles, and assault photographers. Five police officers are also injured in the violent clash.
The soccer tribunal found Genoa fixed its final game against Venezia last season. Genoa won 3-2 and was promoted from Serie B to Italy's premier league.
The disciplinary commission handed down a five-year ban to Genoa president Enrico Preziosi. Three points are also stripped from the club for next season.
Meanwhile, Genoa suffers a 3-0 defeat in an Italian Cup game against Catanzaro on Sunday. The game was stopped after only 21-minutes due to crowd interference.
