Alberta's Booming Oil Industry Means More High School Dropouts

Alberta's enrollment rate is increasing as more migrants move to the province to find jobs in its booming oil industry, however, it suffers from a high dropout rate among secondary students. According to a Statistics Canada report released Monday, only 68 percent of the young Albertans in school year 2005-06 remained long enough to finish high school. The others were enticed to look for jobs in the oil industry, according to Patric Blouin, author of Summary Public School Indicator's for the Provinces and Territories.

The blog that caught the attention of Silicon Valley CEOs is calling it quits. 'Fake Steve Jobs' is moving onto a new job and Hollywood. The blog, "The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs" is shutting down after its author said he no longer wanted to make fun of the controversial CEO of Apple. Daniel Lyons, a former Fortune magazine editor, said he's heading to Newsweek and will be blogging under his own name.

At 108, World's Oldest Blogger Dies

The world's oldest blogger has died after posting her final blog about singing "a happy song" in her nursing home on July 12. She died at the age of 108. Olive Riley, an Australian woman had posted more than 70 blog entries since February 2007.

While other Canadian cities are solving major transport related problems like the threat of a strike in Toronto and the use of Tasers in Vancouver, Parliament Hill is setting a first in Canadian transport by introducing its first batch of female train and bus operators. Ontario now has two women drivers, Margaret Bicknell and Margaret Lafrance. OC Transport wants to add more by launching a recruitment campaign to attract more females and minorities to the company. But the transport firm has more luck getting visible minority applicants than women drivers, admitted Alain Mercier, director of transit services of the City of Ottawa.
