New York's top Catholic leaders on Thursday said the city's decision to distribute 18 million free condoms as "tragic and misguided," saying that it degrades society and encourages promiscuity. The condom give-away took place on Valentine's Day at various locales, including a street corner in midtown Manhattan close to Saint Patrick's Cathedral. New York Cardinal Edward Egan and Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn said in a joint statement released late Thursday: "Our political leaders fail to protect the moral tone of our community when they encourage inappropriate sexual activity by blanketing our neighborhoods with condoms.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug made by Pfizer to aid the weight management of obese dogs. Pfizer will release the liquid formula Slentrol for around 5 percent of U. S. dogs that are 20 percent beyond the ideal weight.

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) has identified eight U. S. servicemen, missing in action (MIA) from the Korean War. The bodies of Master Sgt. Alfred H. Alonzo Sr. ; Sgt. 1st Class Robert C. Bucheit; Sgt. Francis E. Lindsay; Cpl. Joseph Gregori; Cpl. Darrell W. Scarbrough; Cpl. Homer L. Sisk Jr. ; Cpl. Charles E. Sizemore; and Cpl. William E. Wood will be returned to their families for burial with full military honors.
