The sharpshooters in the North East Indian city of Gauhati have reportedly shot Osama bin Laden. Shocked? Well here we are talking about a killer elephant that was blamed for 14 deaths in the northeastern state of Assam.

According to wildlife warden Chandan Bora, a licensed shooter shot and killed the 10-foot-tall elephant near the Behali forest reserve in northern Assam.

After the villagers complained about being too scared to get out of their homes, wildlife authorities ordered that the elephant be shot and killed by December 31.

According to AP, the order came after the elephant dubbed "Laden" killed a woman Wednesday near the thickly wooded evergreen jungle where it lived. "Laden" evaded two previous attempts officials made to kill it.

Records show that in the past five years, more than 250 people have been killed in by elephants in Assam, while angry villagers killed 268 elephants during the same period. Assam is estimated to have 5,300 Asiatic elephants.
