A talented and famous belly dancer in South Korean will face trial for allegedly forging an undergraduate degree to land a job to teach students her dancing skills at university, prosecutors said Monday.
According to a news report, the well-known belly dancer Ahn Yoo-Jin will face trial for allegedly forging a university of Sydney graduation certificate. She used the fake credentials to teach belly dancing at Kwangju Women's University in 2006 but was now terminated from her job.
Ahn, was more popularly known as Xena Ahn, founded the Belly Korea Academy in 1995. She is also established Korea Belly Dance Association and hosted several belly dancing lectures over Korean local television channels.
South Korea's forged degree scandal was believed to be widely spread. It was first discovered when prosecutor investigated professor Shin Jeong-Ah of Dongkuk University in July for allegedly forging a Yale doctorate degree.
Several investigations followed involving thousands of professors all over the country and dozens of well-known people from the entertainment, religious and cultural organizations have divulge they forged their academic records while others were found discovered during the investigation.
