In a bid to make three endangered golden monkeys from China feel at home, the authorities at Los Angeles Zoo have paid $4,500 to an expert in the ancient Chinese art of feng shui. The Zoo will spend a total of $7.4 million for the golden monkeys, which are brought on loan from China and are scheduled to appear at the zoo later this year.

It is apparently the first use of this ancient Chinese art on animals. Fen Shui is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment. It is environmental science that studies how the surrounding environments would affect the human life. It mainly focuses on the study of earth's magnetic field and geo-structure in relation to effects to human life.

Beverly Hills-based feng shui expert Simona Mainini told AP, "We don't have any books on feng shui for monkeys. We just have to assume that Darwin is correct and that there is a connection and what is good for humans is good for monkeys."

The designs at the zoo would be erected by the Seattle-based Portico Group to re-create the feel of a rural Chinese village. The city will pay the Chinese government $100,000 a year for the period of the 10-year loan of the simians.
