Putting grocery items in a bag is surely an art, now Las Vegas is holding the National Grocers Association's Best Bagger Contest to separate the stars from the fans.

One of the potential participants of the contest, Lori Engel, an assistant manager at the Waterford Pick 'n' Save store in Wisconsin, has been bagging items for years and is ready to compete.

Last month, Engel bagged a first place in the Wisconsin Grocers Association's state bagging competition in Green Bay. Engel, 39, competed in a field of 18, in two separate categories - paper and plastic; however the Champion says she prefers paper.

The participants were asked to fill two bags with a selection of grocery items and the points were awarded on the basis of appearance and attitude, time, weight distribution and technique involved in the filling process.

Engel believes that it was not time rather her technique and personality that won her the top spot at the state level.

"There's a sure five points, if you have a smile on your face and it doesn't look like you just rolled out of bed," Engel said.
