Four inmates, including the leader of a violent gang that abducted and killed the son of a former Honduran president, escaped from prison on Tuesday.

According to Rafael Castro, the inmates all used makeshift saws to cut the bars to their cells and used the sound of the rain to disguise the noise of the escape. However, he also stated that some of the guards may have helped in the escape.

Castro says, "These are dangerous fugitives. And also 10 guards from the prison are being investigated in the case."

This is the second time that Santos Padilla, the only living leader of a gang that was responsible for dozens of abductions and murders in the late 1990's, has escaped from the prison.

In 2002, he fled to America after escaping for the first time. He was later captured in the U.S., sent back to Honduras and was incarcerated.
