Officials in Naples are apologizing to a man who was mugged and then beaten by locals while the criminals escaped.
Matthew Godfrey, 25, was visiting Naples from the U.S. when his camera was stolen by two men who fled on a scooter. As he chased after them, he was attacked, allowing the men to escape.
Now, the Mayor of Naples, Rosa Russo Jervolino, says the incident is "inexcusable" and portrays the good city as "uncivilized."
Leonardo Impegno, head of the local council, has also spoken out, telling Reuters, "I have officially invited Matthew... to return to Naples soon to eat a pizza together."
