A Westchester County library charged a dead library patron for overdue books. Elizabeth Schaper was asked to pay a 50-cent fine for returning her late mother's borrowed book at Harrison Public Library Branch.
According to Schaper, her mother, Ethel Schaper, died on September 16, at the age of 87 after suffering a massive stroke. After her mother was buried, Schaper said she found a library book, "The Price of Silence," by Camilla Trinchieri, that her mother borrowed from the library.
Schaper said she returned the book last week, and was shocked when the man in the library counter informed her that she has to pay the 50-cent fee fine for the overdue book.
A couple days after the incident happened, another library employee called to apologize and offered to return the fine, Schaper said.
