An audit will be conducted on the trustees of the Toronto Catholic District School Board after Ontario discovered excessive spending by the trustees. Despite the lack of legal authority, the trustees voted for themselves medical, dental and life insurance coverages, plus a yearly $8,604 car allowance. Those with excess funds from their discretionary budgets were generous to schools, charities and sports groups of their preference, which were not authorized under the country's Education Act.

Police in Jacksonville, Florida were called when a restaurant worker spotted a burglar who was trapped in an air vent while apparently trying to climb down. The suspect was found with his leg dangling from a slot directly above the restaurant's grill, which was smothered with hot oil. Upon seeing the hanging limb, Mandarin restaurant manager Richard Angers alerted the owner, Rana Escamilla, who called the authorities.

Almost six thousand emailed responses favoring the retention of the Lord's Prayer in Ontario's Legislature's opening ceremony is not convincing enough for Premier Dalton McGuinty to change his mind. He is still determined to remove the Pater Noster, even if one of those opposed to his move is his mother, a staunch Roman Catholic.

A Swedish newspaper mistakenly published the wrong photo for an article about a suicide incident. The article, listing the details of the suicide of Broder Daniels guitarist Anders Gothberg, instead published the photograph of former band member Lars Malmros.
