Groundbreaking comedian Richard Pryor, whose stand-up routines about race, sex and life made him a modern day icon, is dead. He was 65. Pryor died after being rushed to a hospital from his home shortly after 8 a. m. Pryor had suffered from multiple sclerosis, a disease of the nervous system.

A 116-year-old woman was declared the oldest person in the world Friday, according to Guinness World Records. Maria Esther Capovilla, an Ecuadorian woman, was confirmed as the record holder after her family provided details of her birth and marriage certificates, said the record keeping organization.

Police arrested a Buddhist monk Wednesday for growing marijuana near the Eikoji shrine in Japan. Michimaru Obara, 48, is suspected of growing approximately 5. 3 pounds of marijuana, according to a police official who declined to be named, citing policy.
