To help Germany's millions of smokers quit the habit, the country's Federal Medical Society proposed Tuesday to reclassify tobacco addiction as an ailment. According to German physicians, the idea behind the reclassification is to add pressure on nicotine addicts by placing a sick label to spur them to seek medical assistance.

French Army Rescues Two Nationals From Somali Pirates

Two French nationals held hostage by Somalian pirates since September 2 were rescued by the French army, in an operation that also resulted in the death of one pirate and the capture of six others. The office of President Nicolas Sarkozy said Jean-Yves and Bernadette Delane are safe. Sarkozy gave the green light on Monday for the French army to carry out the operations.

Austrian Daughter Held Captive By Father For 24 Years Speaks Out About Ordeal

Elisabeth Fritzl, the woman who was locked in a cellar for 24 years by her father, who raped her and fathered her children, has spoken out about what her life was like while kept prisoner by her domineering father. In an interview with an Austrian judge, Elisabeth, 42, said that her father, Josef, raped her at least three times a week for all those years. Of the seven children he fathered with her, three lived in the cellar, while three were chosen by Josef to be raised in the house by he and his wife. One child died in infancy, and Josef reportedly incinerated the baby's corpse.

"Sex Club" Formed By Elementary School Students In Australia

An outraged father is demanding a full investigation after learning that his 6-year-old son was involved in a "sex-club," in which elementary aged children were performing sex acts on each other in school bathrooms. The father told the Australian News much of his anger comes from the fact that the school waited six days to notify him after catching the children and forcing them to write statements in which the boys said they were in a sex club, meaning they would force other children to perform sex acts on them, and they would perform sex acts on others.

Researchers Hope To Artificially Create Effects Of "Big Bang" Theory With $5.3 Billion Experiment

In the world's most expensive science experiment, 5,000 scientists, engineers and technicians from nearly three dozen countries will attempt to test the Big Bang theory to understanding the beginning of time. The tests, to re-create what happened immediately after the Big Bang, will be conducted using the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), located underneath the French-Swiss border, in the European Organization for Nuclear Research laboratory -- better known by its French acronym CERN.
