Fifty-two cows on a ranch in northern Uruguay died after they were struck by the same bolt of lightning.
A veterinarian who examined the line of dead Hereford and Normandy cows in San Jose State said the animals were electrocuted because they were all pressed against the ranch's wired fence that was hit by lightning on Wednesday.
The San Jose Police Department released photos of the dead cows laying in a line along the fence.
The veterinarian said it was the habit of cows to crowd around fences during a storm, according to CBS News.
