Swimmers have had to stay out of the water in a San Francisco, California park after a cranky sea lion bit 14 people and chased 10 others out of his lagoon. California sea lions are known for their intelligence, playfulness and loud barking, according to the Marine Mammal Center Web site.

In an effort to raise public awareness of the "pain of isolation," a Chinese man has volunteered to lock himself in a cage with lions. The China Daily reports that Ye Fu, assisted by another man, entered a cage with lions at the Qingdao Wildlife Part. The cage measures four meters high and three meters wide.

At least three people have died in attacks by a pride of lions in northeastern Kenya. According to the BBC, there is a shortage of food for the lions after a severe drought struck the region. Wildlife stocks have been depleted in recent years by militia from neighboring Somalia who hunt for food.

A man who entered the lions' enclosures in a Kiev Zoo shouting and questioning the existence of God was mauled to death by a lioness. "The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists', lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions," the official said.

A wildlife officer shot and killed a female mountain lion after she attacked a 7-year-old boy hiking with his family. The 80-pound cat bit the boy's head, causing puncture wounds and scrapes on his legs, which likely came from the animal's claws.
