A lovesick Pakistani faces up to three years in jail for falsely charging a brother and a cousin of the woman he wishes to marry of planning a suicide attack on the U.S. consulate in Karachi.

Jobless laborer Mohammad Imran triggered a security panic when he made a hoax call to the U.S. embassy in Islamabad last month after relatives barred him from meeting or speaking to the woman.

Police grilled the relatives only to find that they are ordinary people with no connection to terrorism, says Bangash.

Police will bring Imran to court in Karachi on Wednesday.

"It appears to be a case of a man infatuated by a girl going to extremes to realize his dream of marrying her one day," Reuters quotes police as saying.

A spokesman for the U.S. consulate in Karachi, declines to comment on the issue.
