Officers apprehended a man who was charged with impersonating a state police in order to get a free train ride.
Saying that he was a State Police sergeant and that he needed to ride the train for official business, 32-year old Paul Rumery requested to ride the train for free, from Saco to Boston.
Officials said that Rumery, who is really a truck driver for Labbe Construction of Ardunel, had repeatedly pulled the same stunt, with four or five trips made since November.
Rumery had never been a police officer, said WCSH.
Trooper Eric Bergquist said that Rumery was arrested on the charges of impersonating a public officer and theft of service. He was released on a $300 bond.
A court hearing for his case is scheduled at the Biddeford District Court on March 5, said the Portland Press Herald.
Officers emphasized that they are prohibited from accepting gratuities of any kind, including free train rides.
