A Philadelphia man got an unpleasant surprise at his dining table when he found out something unusual in his plate full of green beans. Upon looking closely, Earl Hartman said he was shocked to discover the inch-long head on his plate Wednesday night, resting between a chicken breast and buttered noodles.

WCAU-TV quotes Hartman as saying, "When I sat down, I noticed something didn't look right. It didn't look like a green bean."

The Pathmark store, from where he purchased the beans, asked him to call up Seneca Foods in upstate New York, where the vegetables were canned. No legal action has yet been taken by Hartman following the incident.

Carteret, the New Jersey-based Pathmark Stores has reportedly confirmed that a customer found a "foreign substance" in a can of green beans, but said officials had not determined what it was.

As a precautionary measure, some similar cans were removed from the shelves as a precaution.
