An attempted robbery at a Capitol Hill home took a bizarre turn when the intruder apparently got emotional and left with nothing but a glass of wine and some hugs. Michael Rabdau, 51, was enjoying dinner with his family during a get together at a friend's place last month when a hooded man slid in through an open gate and pointed the gun at his teenage daughter demanding money.
While everyone froze, one of the guests stood up and offered the man to have a glass of wine with the dining group.
The robber agreed and as he took a sip of Chateau Malescot St-Exupery and praised it, the guest offered him to take the whole bottle.
At this point, the robber, described by witnesses in his 20s, apologized, put the gun back in his sweatpants, and asked for a group hug. All the guests complied. The satisfied robber walked away a few moments later with the crystal wine glass in hand.
"We've had robbers that apologize and stuff but nothing where they sit down and drink wine. It definitely is strange," Police Cmdr. Diane Groomes told the Washington Post.
Witnesses told the officials that the suspect might have been high on drugs when he entered the home.
