Twenty-four-year-old Joey Chestnut has proven again that he is champion in chowdown. And he does it in record fashion.

Chestnut won the first-ever Famous Famiglia World Pizza Eating Championship in New York Time's Square Sunday eating 45 slices of pizza in 10 minutes, beating the previous record of 22 slices by Chicago chef Patrick Bertoletti.

Bertoletti ate 43 slices in Sunday's competition which won Chestnut $5,000.

Chestnut, from San Jose, California first gained prominence in 2007 when he won the Coney Island's hot-dog eating contest. Last summer, he won again by eating 59 hotdogs in 10 minutes.

He said after that he fasted for several days prior to the contest as preparation.
