A man who fled police by jumping into the Colorado River Monday was rescued and then arrested by Glenwood Springs Police after he spent almost an hour and a half in the 40-degree water.
Police first made contact with Dryden McCintosh, 37, while he was walking alond Devereux Road. He ran from the officers, jumping into the freezing river to avoid capture, the Glenwood Springs Post Independent reported.
Police say McCintosh had a "shopping list" of warrants, including at least one from Wyoming.
Police Chief Terry Wilson told the Post Independent that McCintosh first jumped into the river and swam across it. After climbing out of the river, he tried to cross Interstate 70, but turned around and jumped back into the river, where he was carried nearly two and a half miles downstream before he clung to a rock in the middle of the river, where he was eventually rescued.
McCintosh was hypothermic by the time police reached him. He was treated at Valley View Hospital, and upon release, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest.
