Charges haven yet to be filed in a June 18 assault case where one man reportedly bit the ear off another during an argument over a dog.

Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Tony Aas reports an argument ensued between the two men after a dog started running around the picnic grounds. A 43-year-old man became upset when the dog started swimming and running on the beach.

Aas says the argument soon turned physical and that's when the older man bit most of the 36-year-old dog owner's ear off; he was later treated at Madison hospital and released.

The older man has been charged with aggravated assault and felony charges, while simple assault charges are pending against the young man.

A 33-year-old woman who was accompanying the younger man faces disorderly conduct charges.

Lake County Sheriff Roger Hartman said he would not release details of the case because the state attorney's office was still handling it.
