Zagreb, Croatia (AHN) A local man offered to sell his cornea and a kidney Thursday to pay off a loan debt.

Forty-year-old Nenad Vrbanic owes loans totaling 35,000 euros. The daily newspaper in Zagreb quoted Vrbanic as saying, " "I know that selling organs is illegal, and I know that by losing a cornea I will go blind in one eye, but I am ready for it."

Vrbanic has already sold his car and his home in a suburb of Zagreb and moved to a rural area north of the city with his mother.

"I see no other way out," he said. "By selling these organs I will help myself and someone else."
