Authorities in the Philippines are on the hunt for a man who paid a funeral home with 80 pieces of fake 1,000 Philippine peso bills ($21.4), for the burial service of his partner.

Investigators from the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit identified the man as Larry Nocum.

Reports said Nocum hired the services of Arlington Memorial Chapel for the wake and funeral services of his partner, the late Mercy Velazquez Cruz.

Cruz was buried Saturday morning and Arlington presented Nocum with a bill of P80,000 ($1.712). Nocum then handed the funeral home cashier, Maritess Tagarino, 80 pieces of P1,000 bills representing the full payment of the service.

Tagarino said she had full confidence to Nocum that she did not run the bills through a fake bill detector.

It was only afterwards that she learned that all the bills were fake and she contacted the police to hunt down the man.
