A man found unresponsive Tuesday after a ride on a Disney World roller coaster was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Jeffrey Reed, 44, a resident of Navarre, Florida was pulled from the Expedition Everest ride at Disney World's Animal Kingdom, and taken by Reedy Creek Emergency Services to Celebration Hospital, where he was administered with CPR and later died. Officials said there were no visible signs of trauma or injury.
Authorities discovered that Reed was apparently still conscious about 50 seconds before the end of the ride, as shown by a photograph automatically taken before the end of the ride, and as the coaster approached the loading area.
The roller coaster was found to be in good working condition, reported the AP, and an autopsy will be administered to determine whether Reed was suffering from a medical condition that led to his death, as informed by Jim Solomons, a spokesman for the sheriff.
A statement from Disney said, "We offer our deepest sympathies and will provide assistance to them during this difficult time."
The roller coaster was temporarily closed until Disney officials ensure that there are no defects.
