Biologists say the man who says he spotted a mountain lion near his home, might have actually seen a large house cat. However, DuWayne Hendrickson does not accept the explanation and sticks to his statement.

Hendrickson says he spotted a mountain lion in south of U.S. Highway 2. "I saw it myself for 30 seconds from about 100 feet away. I've been around animals all my life. I'm not an idiot," he added.

According to AP reports, Greg Gullickson, a biologist from the state Game and Fish Department investigated the tracks of the animal in question and also photographed them. Gullickson says he is sure the tracks do not belong to a lion and are actually made by a domestic cat.

Gullickson says he instead spotted a large cat matching the description that Hendrickson provided. The animal was also about a block away from where Hendrickson stays. "And it was a large, orange domestic cat," Gullickson added.

Describing the tracks, Gullickson added, "Mountain lion tracks are much larger and typically are 3 inches by 3 inches." He also said the train of a mountain lion does not have nail marks in them. "They are round and not pointed like a domestic dog track."

Despite the confusion, Gullickson still advise people to intimate the authorities if they think they spot a cougar in the area.
