A Missouri man who hid the death of his father will serve five months in prison on fraud charges, the U.S. District Court in St. Louis ruled on Tuesday. Kris McWilliams, 36, pleaded guilty to burning his father's body so they could keep collecting the his Social Security disability checks.
McWilliams' mother, Betty Joanne McWilliams, 59, and sister, Kimberly Ferguson, 39, have also pleaded guilty to theft of government funds charges
U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway said the family hid the death of Larry McWilliams and burned his body to hide any evidence that he had died, according to AP reports.
Larry McWilliams died in 1997 of natural causes near Lewiston.
Kris' mother and sister will be sentenced March 22.
